This is the comment of a young Afghan woman after having read Fateh's book: Fateh’s book touched me a lot. For sure, it touches every Afghan who started his life elsewhere after leaving his country. It was so rich in literature, so deep in emotion and su pure in subject. I am proud of him like an Afghan. (Mobina, Montreal, October 2009)

Saturday June 13, 2009, the latest novel of Fateh Emam "L'Amant arabe de Miss Anne" was commented by Josiane Perret, manager of the bookshop LES YEUX FERTILES, in Lausanne in the radio program "La librairie francophone" (the french speaking bookshop) as the book the whole town talks about. This weekly program is broadcasted on all the french speaking public radios, i.e. France Inter, in partnership with the swiss, the belgian and the canadian radio. Tatiana Honegger came to buy the book at the signature at the bookshop Les Yeux Fertiles. Here is her book-review: Plongée dans le roman de Fateh Emam, L’AMANT ARABE DE MISS ANNE….
Partage entre le désir de dévorer ce roman qui palpite de tension… et de déguster chaque mot d’une écriture superbe, de rêver à chaque image suscitée par ces mots et qui font voyager très loin, à tous niveaux.
Hâte de connaître la suite –oui, et puis retour en arrière, relire les pages que je viens de lire trop vite, relire pour goûter, admirer, réfléchir : la richesse foisonnante du langage et des descriptions, la finesse de l’analyse, le regard aigu sur nos sociétés.
Ce roman est un cri de révolte envers toutes les injustices, les hypocrisies, les misérables lâchetés, les compromissions de notre monde actuel – si souvent issues d’une incapacité à comprendre, à admettre, à tirer des leçons de l’Histoire, d’une égale incapacité à comprendre et connaître l’autre, à lui tendre la main, à créer des ponts entre les êtres, les cultures, les civilisations. Tout ce gâchis.
Un cri de dégoût face au scoop médiatique, avide d’argent et de scandale, face au détournement médiatisé de l’humanitaire, dévoyé de ses bases réelles. Parce qu’il faut désormais des stars du monde artistique ou politique, qui, le visage lisse et souriant, passent quelques heures dans un orphelinat ou un camp de réfugiés, et repartent ensuite dans leur cage dorée. Il faut cela, ces photos, pour faire des pages people qui se vendent très cher…hors de toute la réalité cruelle du terrain, jour après jour.
L’héroïne du roman, toutefois, a une conscience, un idéal, avec lequel elle «louvoie » comme dit l’auteur, et l’on pressent son appel vers l’authenticité. Elle se débat, elle chemine, elle espère. Elle cherche.
Une immense quête de l’identité sous-tend tout le roman. Celle de Miss Anne. Et la quête essentielle de son amant, un «moi hybride » et douloureux, écartelé entre deux cultures, est sans doute l’une des colonnes vertébrales, l’un des axes majeurs et poignants de ce roman. L’amour y est une réponse puissante, absolue.
Il y aurait tant à dire, encore, ce ne sont que des bribes face à ce texte qui nous emporte par-delà les mers, à nouveau.
Merci Fateh pour ce magnifique et tragique roman, tellement ancré dans notre monde actuel, tellement relié à tous nos passés. Pétri de révolte - mais aussi de vraie compassion, d’un regard lucide, d’une culture humaniste tellement vaste, qui embrasse tout un monde, qui nous interroge, nous interpelle, nous invite à refuser l’incuriosité, les radicalisations, le repli, l’intolérance. Merci, Fateh visionnaire.
